Where will the Rose be planted next?

Derrick Rose came into the league fully blossomed but as time has gone by, it seems like his skill set is dwindling down just like the pedals on a rose and it could really hurt him in the free agency. The keyword is “could” because in the current NBA market, teams will overpay for players who are mid-tier hoopers but begs the question whether teams will take a chance on an injury prone point guard who was a former MVP? Most likely. Looking at D Rose’s game, you still see flashes of brilliance that at the same time you still see glimpses of a hobbled leader that’s been cut off from the knees. If I was a betting man, which I might be, I would take a chance on Rose, strictly because he can still hoop with the best of them when he’s healthy and you could give him a decent sized contract and he would accept it, knowing that he hasn’t been the most reliable player in the league. Now what teams could be looking for his services? Good question.

The ideal destination for Rose and his services, in my humble opinion, would be in the twin cities. Minnesota would be a great spot for the former MVP and he would fit right in with the current roster that has been assembled. The Wolves are in a desperate need for a point guard that can keep up the with pace of the young guns on the roster but also able to slow and control the pace when needed. Rose is their man. Rose might not be as efficient and reliable as a player like Westbrook but when healthy, his upside is tremendous and he can be an x factor in the playoffs if the wolves can sneak in this coming season. There are few teams that can stop a full speed Rose in transition and if he’s able to adjust and build chemistry with the wolves’ roster right away, the sky is the limit for this team. Currently they have Rubio at the helm and many Wolves fans aren’t happy with his production and to be honest there isn’t a ton of upside to his game other than his crisp passing. Now the signing of Rose would be a big risk for the wolves’ organization this offseason but to win it all, sometimes you need to risk it to get the biscuit.

Rose to the Wolves makes a ton of sense, but I’m going to take my own advice and risk it by suggesting that Rose also would be an ideal fit in New Orleans, alongside two of the best big men in the association. I can picture it now, Rose speeding down the court, looking like the flash, finding Anthony Davis on the wing who feeds it to a cutting Demarcus Cousins in the paint for the jam! That’s as ideal as a dreamboat coasting down the Pacific Ocean on the way to a Jamaican adventure. Is this a possibility for the Pelicans? Are they ready to soar to new heights with Rose talking ahold of the navigation system? Yes but at the same time I have no clue, that depends if my first question becomes a reality. But since we are going on hypothetical situations, then yes, I believe Rose to the Pelicans would help them soar to a championship height. Now could he handle being a backup PG behind the likes of Jrue Holliday, or would they be better off if Rose was just the starter? Option #1 is the way to go for the organization with both of those beasts in the backcourt interchanging, making the world their oyster. Holliday is a proven 3-point threat/passer and Rose is a threat to slash through the paint/pull up in your face and hit a jimmy right in your lips and that’s a combo you don’t want to mess with. Throw in a little bit of Cousins spice, mixed in with a little Davis stock and you’re left with a New Orleans gumbo that will be a threat during the NBA playoffs cook off.

Wherever Rose ends up, he will be a solid addition to the roster if he can stay healthy and produce at the level he knows he can get to and teams know that he can get to. With that said, teams know that they will be rolling the dice with a contract offer, but if that dice can help them get to the next level, why not take it?
